Chocolate Lovers Unite – For Chocolate Cake Day
Celebrate national chocolate cake day with a delicious slice or two of chocolate cake.
Hello friends
Did you know here in the UK, today 27th January is National Chocolate Cake Day? Who would have thought such a day exists? In fact, there are lots of national food days and I can’t help but wonder who thinks these things up. Are they just marketing ploys? Can you just make them up and declare a date a special food day? Or are there steps that have to be taken to make it official? Do we even care?
Some of these food days (and weeks) have a more serious tone, such as salt awareness week (4-11 February) or world obesity day 4 th February. But as far as I’m concerned most are just a bit of fun - Blueberry pie day 28th April, yes, please!
And if chocolate cake day exists why not celebrate it? Not that I really need an excuse to make or eat chocolate cake – Just saying.
So today seemed the perfect day to share my decadent chocolate and hazelnut celebration cake. It’s a bit late for today’s celebration but its the perfect special occasion cake for chocolate lovers.
For something more every day there are some other great chocolate cakes on Only Crumbs Remain that you may like to try.

What I’m cooking/ eating this week
My son and his girlfriend have been living with us temporarily while buying their 1st home and they cook twice a week. As they both work full time they have been using Hello Fresh for convenience. They like that they can choose the dishes and all the ingredients to make them come together. Generally, they have been pretty good although Mr B and I find some of the sauce a bit too salty for our tastes and the proportions are slightly on the small size. They move out this week end. I will miss not having to cook 2 nights a week, I will not miss the mess they leave my hob in!
Last weekend we had dinner at the Queens Head Blyford Suffolk. Its a lovely little pub with great food. The menus are seasonal and they grown a lot of their own vegetables and source ingredients locally. Well worth a seeking out if you are in the area.
What I have been reading
I have a friend who has a holiday home in France and dreams of retiring there. I even have friends, Paul and Mark who followed a long-held dream of opening a B& B in France - Maison Belmont in Eymet, which they have made a reality and is now a top rated B&B in the area. But I don't know anyone who just upped and moved on a whim. Until I read about fellow guild of food writer, Debora Robertson who did just that Check out her story, It’s a lovely read.
What I’m watching
Ok, it has got nothing to do with food but like many others, I’m watching Happy Valley and the 3rd series is already living up to expectations I’m only on episode 2 so no spoilers, please. Once it's over it’s going to be a hard act to follow, any suggestions as to what to watch next?
Until next time, have a delicious week.
Love this going to try the Blood orange one today! Thank you I love your help, advice and recipes.
