Chocolate Orange
Warm, sweet, and a little bit indulgent— my chocolate orange bakes are perfect for sharing. If you love chocolate and orange, you’re in for a treat.
Welcome to this week’s Recipe Crumbs Newsletter
When I sat down to think about what recipes to share with you this week, the first thing I thought of was oranges as they are in season and at their best right now, especially deliciously juicy, slightly tangy blood oranges. But then I remembered I had shared a post on those three years ago, which you will find here.
So as a twist on that citrusy theme, I settled on Chocolate Orange, a classic, much loved flavour combination I have used several times on Only Crumbs Remain. Settling on that theme I have updated a couple of posts (featured below) that have been there since the very very first days of Only Crumbs. I re-edited the photos so they look a bit more zingy and they now are finally in my full recipe card format which makes them easy to print.
So if you like this classic flavour combination too you will love these recipes.
Happy cooking and have a delicious week.
P.S. I love seeing your photographs, so if you make any of my recipes over Christmas and are happy to share them, please tag me #recipecrumbs on social media or send them via return on any of my emails

📌Cook’s Tip
To test sponge cakes to see if they are cooked press gently with your finger tip. The sponge will spring back into shape when the cake is ready.
When adding liquid flavourings to cakes look for a label that says “extract” (or essence) made from natural ingredients, and pick a good quality one as the difference shows. Those that are labeled as “flavouring” are made artifically and give a less natural flavour plus have the extra chemicals that we like to avoid in home baking.

📖 Cookery Terms Made Easy
Light and Fluffy – This term describes the ideal texture achieved when butter and sugar are creamed together. As you beat them, tiny air bubbles are trapped in the mixture, which makes it soft and airy—perfect for helping cakes rise.
Next Week – A look back at the month just gone

Yum! I love chocolate and orange, and tasted it for the first time when my Great Tantes (my mom's aunts from the Netherlands) visited us one summer in the 1960s and brought us Droste's Chocolate Orange Apples (Droste's chocolate in the shape of an apple). What a treat to taste that combo for the first time. Thanks as always for sharing your photos and recipes - such a virtual feast!
Thank you, Mary, I love the fact that you can remember your first time tasting this flavour combo. I find it fascinating how food can bring back such strong, clear memories.
