Its all Greek
Dreaming of summer holiday food? Transport yourself to the sun-kissed shores of Greece with the tantalizing aroma and flavours of Beef Stifado, Mousaka or tuck into a fresh Greek Salad.
Hello
This time next week I shall be in sunny Kalamata in the Greek Peloponnese. So you are going to have to forgive me for being a bit preocupied with all things Greek at the moment.
Those of you who have been receiving my emails a while or following me on social media may remember I was in Greece last November. We stayed for a month working 4 days a week and enjoying the Greek lifestyle the rest of the week. It would not be an understatement to say we absolutely loved our time there, even if I did break my wrist tripping on the impossibly uneven pavements, and we cant wait to do it all over again (with out the the breaking bones!).
This time we have rented a small house in the southern Peloponnese. It’s near the beach and has a courtyard garden. Mr B is looking forward to exploring the history and practising his few words of Greek again and I will be checking out the food scene. I’ve packed my chef’s knifes and hopefully the cooking faculties will be enough to enjoy a bit of Mediterranean style cooking, so l can share some of my foodie delights with you here and on my social media.
To get in the mood for our trip I’m sharing with you three Greek dishes I have already published on Recipes Made Easy that you might like to try to get you into holiday mood. Beef Stifado is a deliciously rich aromatic stew. Perfect for cooler days and let’s face it it still pretty chilly here in the UK. It’s very easy to make but time creates the magic with a long marinating and cooking time that transforms this dish into something special.
Moussaka remains a family favourite with us, it’s like a lighter version of lasagne. And finally a classic Greek salad an ideal summer main or side dish.
Until next time have a delicious week.
Beef Stifado
A classic Greek casserole. Traditionally served with Orzo pasta, rice or chips. Put the meat to marinade the day before if possible. Save energy by cooking in the slow cooker.
Easy Moussaka
This easy moussaka makes a great midweek meal. Similar to lasagne but lighter and with no white sauce to make. The aubergines are baked so it is lower in calories than a traditional Moussaka too.
Greek Salad
Horiatiki – A simple classic Greek salad of tomato, cucumber, onion, olives and feta cheese. Ideal as both a side dish or main meal salad, it just seems to taste of sunshine and holidays.
And now for something different
