Make a meal of mince

With the weather having a bit of a cold snap mince is the ideal to meat to make something economical and warming for mid week meals, while we wait for warmer salad days to come.

Just as we thought Spring was about to arrive we get a blast of really cold weather. I know it’s not that unusual in the UK for it be very wintery in March but I was looking forward to sunnier days as it has felt like its been a long wet winter.

I decided it was time to make my savoury mince cobbler again. It’s cheap easy to make and just right for cooler days. Home comfort food at its best! Which reminded me just how good meals made with mince can be. So this week I’m sharing some of my favourite wintertime mince recipes with you.

Savoury Mince Cobler

A simple mince beef and onion filling topped with Cobblers (cheesy scones) make this savoury mince cobbler a delicious and economical family dinner.

Easy Oriental Pork

This really simple to make easy oriental pork is a delicious savoury mince dish flavoured with sweet chilli, oyster and soy sauce. Perfect for a mid week meal;  you can have it on the table in under 30 minutes. Serve with rice or noodles.

Easy Chilli

Easy chilli – Recipes don't come much easier than this, making it the perfect midweek meal. This simple version is packed with flavour and is as the name suggests very easy to make.

St.Patricks Day

It’s St.Patrick’s Day on 17th so you might want to make some Irish Soda bread. If you haven’t made soda bread before then trust me making bread does not get easier than this so give it a go. It’s delicious!

Mother’s Day

I’m already beginning to think about Easter - you know me, any excuse to get baking. A Traditional Simnel Cake is often associated with Easter, though its roots are in Lent when back in the 19th century It became traditional for girls in service to give a Simnel cake to their mothers on the fourth Sunday of Lent to prove their cookery skills. That day later became known as Mothering Sunday. 

Mothering Sunday falls half way through lent and offered a respite from the 40 days of fasting.

As mothering sunday is just over a week away you might want to get the ingredients in, ready to make this cake either for Mothers Day or Easter.
