Pass the Chutney
Autumn is a great time to be making chutney, not only are there lots of fruits and vegetables around to make them, they are fun and easy to make too.
Hello friends
While I was trying to decide what to write for this week's newsletter, I took a look at my stats to see what posts were popular at the moment. Top post is my Easy Tomato Chutney on Recipes Made Easy, and there were several other chutneys and preserves including my Apple Jelly and Piccalilli which feature very highly in the stats.
This got me thinking that now is one of the best times of the year to make chutney and preserves to use up the last of the years’ bounty. Most need a little time to mature for the flavours to blend and mellow before they taste at their best. They make great homemade foodie gifts and will be just perfect come the festive season. (Sorry to mention that, but I'm already thinking of new festive posts to share, and next week, Ocado are releasing the first of their Christmas delivery slots!)
If you are new to making preserves, Chutneys are a great place to start. They are easier to make than jams (not that jams are hard once you master the basics), and you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour for months to come.
Next week, this year's Great British Bake Off starts again in the UK on Channel 4 on September 24th and comes to Netflix in the US on September 27th. It is back for its 15th season, of which I have watched most. Here’s a fun look at this year's contestants. Will you be watching it? As a keen baker, I feel it would be a dereliction of duty not to, but I will have to watch on catch-up as it is on a choir night.
To celebrate next week, I shall post a brand new devilishly good cake recipe on Only Crumbs Remain so that’s next week’s newsletter sorted 😃
Until next time have a delicious week.
Easy Tomato Chutney
Simple to make, this lightly spiced easy tomato chutney is delicious with cold meats and cheese. I can’t resist it served with cold meat and chips.
Mr Bs award winning Rhubarb Chutney
This is a great recipe to make with the last of the summer garden rhubarb.
Plum and Apple Chutney
A great seasonal chutney, ale adds a depth of flavour to this easy to make Autumn fruit chutney
Homemade Piccalilli
I feel this is a love or hate it pickle, which camp do you fall into? Try it with my Ham Hock Terrine.
Apple Jelly
Apple Jelly is a versatile preserve that's simple to make and perfect for using up a glut of apples. A delicious alternative to jam as a spread on bread or a filling for cakes.
