Piece of Pie
6 to 12th March is British pie week so what better excuse could there possibly be to indulge in a delicious slice of pie?
Hello friends
I hope you have had a good week. Im delighted to say that doing my daily physio exercises has paid off and I have now made an almost complete recovery after fracturing my wrist. Which means I am finally able to get back in the kitchen properly.
So this week I have been busy re shooting some old recipes as well as testing and photographing some new recipes for both Recipes Made Easy and Only Crumbs Remain. And I have to say it feels good to back on form.
I shall be sharing these new recipes (including something sweet and chocolaty for Easter) very soon but until then, as next week is British pie week, what better time than now to share some of my pie recipes that are already on the blog.
British Pies
Although there are exceptions think fish pie and shepherds pie etc, here in the UK, when we think of pie we are generally referring to something baked in the oven with a pastry. The pastry is sometimes just on the the top but some pies have a double crust meaning that the filling is completely encased in pastry. And I think its fair to say we Brits love them.
Chicken and Mushroom Pie
So this week my featured recipe is Chicken and Mushroom Pie as it has proved to be one of my most popular pie recipes and for good reason. It tastes fabulous. It’s a recipe I have been making for almost as many years as I have been baking although it has evolved over the years. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
More Savoury pastry pies from Recipes Made Easy and Only Crumbs Remain you might like to try
Turkey and Chorizo Pot Pie (also good made with chicken)
Until next time have a delicious week
PS
What I’ve been watching
The Gold - BBC iplayer I really enjoyed this drama series inspired by true events surrounding the 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery, and the story that followed.
Shirley Valentine – Duke of York Theatre. My first trip to the theatre this year. I loved the film and this one woman show staring Sheriden Smith did not disappoint.
Reader Pics
I love getting feedback from people who have made my recipes. If you have made one of my recipes and enjoyed it I would love to hear from you either here on Substack, by commenting on the recipe page or via one of the blogs contact page or on social media. I’m also very happy to try help you with any cooking or baking questions you might have.
This week one of my Regular reader sent me a photograph of my Banana and Tahini Muffins that she had made so I asked if I could share her picture with you and she said yes.
