That was the Month that was April 2025
A look back at what's been happening in April plus some bakes using the seasons new arrivals
Hello
I thought March dragged its feet a bit, but April seems to have come and gone in the blink of an eye. Can it really be May already!
So what was happening in April? Well it went by so quickly I managed to run out of time to write a newsletter last week. Now that I look back at it, I spent a lot of the month catching up with family and friends before, during and after Easter.
My eldest son came home for a two week break before Easter, and there was a lot of catching up to do with a wedding only a few months away now. And the whole family went round to my youngest son, where he and his partner cooked us a Sunday lunch for the first time in their flat, in Kentish Town, now that he finally has a dining table and could sit us all down.
I had a fabulous few days out and about in London with my good friend Fiona. Many years ago she lived locally to us, but now she has settled in Nottinghamshire so we only get to catch up once or twice a year. We had fun exploring the ever expanding King Cross area in lovely weather where we had lunch at Parillian, grilling our own Spanish-style fare on on an airy, outdoor terrace bar. We visited Battersea power station and explored Camden market which never seems to be less than completely packed, so stopping for coffee and buns at Kentish Town was a life saver.

Good Friday we went to a friends for lunch. He was a food photographer that I used to work with many years ago and is an amazing cook. We hadn’t seen each other for a long time so over the space of many hours he produced something in the region of 7 courses each with matching wines. There was a lot of talk and laughter and we finally left for home at 10.30pm.

In between all the socialising I went to see one of my choirs perform a concert of songs on the theme of Rock Gods and Divas at the Hackney Empire. I had decided not to take part this time as I had missed too many rehearsals. It was actually fun to be on the other side of the stage and getting to hear how we sound.
I did another stint of judging for the Great Taste Awards which is always fun, but it is a very hard day. I tidied up my London Garden for summer, and planted some late summer vegetables at the allotment which has been springing into life. It looks like we will have a bumper crop of berries this year. I also spent a couple of weeks in Suffolk working on the garden and getting one cottage ready for holiday makers and the other for our new long term tenant.
Wow! no wonder April went fast. I seemed to have packed a lot in. How was your month? I hope most of you had a chance to enjoy a good break over Easter.
Until next time, have a delicious week.
