That was the month that was - January 2025
Taking a look back at the first month of the 2025. Plus a new cookie recipe on Only Crumbs Remain
Hello
This time last year I started writing a monthly look back over what has been happening both online on Recipes Made Easy, Only Crumbs Remain and behind the scenes in real life. A year has gone by, and I haven’t ever been short of things to write about and this year is shaping up to be equally eventful. I’ve lots planned for the blog and I’m booked in to cook my sons wedding cake in the Autumn. The year started with a city break to explore Budapest and Hungarian foods, and already I have booked another extended trip to Greece for a workcation in a few months time.
January seems such a strange month to me. On the one hand it often seems to be over in a flash and yet Christmas and the New Year feel like a lifetime ago. After all the build up in December I can now barely remember them.
The start of 2025 in the UK we had some bitterly cold days. I managed to miss the coldest week as I was in Budapest where the weather was cool, grey and damp. The complete reversal of what I expected. It’s Mr B’s birthday in early January so it was nice to get away to celebrate and we were joined by my best friend and her husband who were over from Australia.
I have to say I really enjoyed Budapest. The combined cities of Buda and Pest are quite compact so you can cover a fair bit on foot and the public transport is very easy to navigate. The city was at its peak of prosperity at the end of the 19th C and the beautiful Art Nouveau style architecture from then is everywhere.
The spectacular thermal baths fed with hot waters deep below the city were brilliant and naturally we ate out as much as possible to try the Hungarian foodstuffs. The ruin bars, which are restaurants, bars and clubs set up in grand buildings abandoned during the soviet era, were packed and huge fun, and at the complete other end of the scale, we ate in a couple of vaulted restaurants with the ceilings richly decorated from the city’s civic heyday.
All in all I would highly recommend going if you get a chance especially as it is relatively cheap for a city break which often tend to be quite expensive.

On my return it was a case of getting back into the swing of work (not easy) and catching up with chores. Last week I published a new recipe Lime Marmalade on Recipes Made Easy and this week a new easy baking recipe Cinnamon Roll Cookies on Only Crumbs Remain.
And that just about sums up my January.
So until next time, have a delicious week.
