Hello friends
and welcome to my monthly look back behind the scenes of what’s been happening both on the blogs and real life.
September has been a pleasant if not particularly eventful month. I left London for another week in at our cottages in Suffolk, and spent a lovely early autumn week working mostly outside in perfect gardening weather. I picked a reasonable crop of plums which I’ve turned into jam and the windfalls from the Bramley apple have gone into crumbles and cakes sprinkled with hedgerow blackberries.
At the end of the month, we hired a skip and got rid of an ever-growing pile of rubble from our building works, reclaiming part of the garden. That was very satisfying.
At home in London, as many of you know, I am in a couple of choirs. Both choirs are back after a summer break and its’s good to be singing with friends again. Despite singing in a choir (both are non-audition), I am not that confident singing in front of others, so I took the plunge and signed up for a voice training for beginners course at my local adult learning college. The thought was slightly terrifying, but I'm so glad I took the plunge. Only three weeks in and I can already hold my notes for longer and of course I’ve got to meet some new people which is always fun.
Towards the end of the month Mr B and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary which makes us feel so old. We celebrated with dinner in our local Italian neighbourhood restaurant which is always a treat.

The following day I was struck down with a virus that laid me low for a few days but I’m glad to say I’m back to full strength now. There does already seem to be a few nasty bugs going around.
What I’ve been watching: Kaos on Netflix. Despite our frequent trips to Greece, I've never really studied the stories of the Greek gods. But this series is fantastic, perfectly brought into a slightly retro modern world. The stories almost have a futuristic feel to them, and the writing and acting are superb. I think it is one of the best things I have seen on TV for a while. What was slightly odd was recognising some of the place settings, not from our trips to Greece but from a long weekend trip to Seville a few years back.
I’ve also enjoyed Ludwig on the BBC.
Have you seen anything good on TV recently? I love to get recommendations for what to watch next.
What I’ve been eating:
With the change of seasons, salads have now given way to soup, making a regular appearance at meal times. I’ve been going through my recipes to pick out something for a change as it gets cooler. And you can check out some of my favourite soups in the link below.
On The blogs:
I’ve been busy updating some of my older recipe posts and photographed and published a rich chocolate cake for Halloween last week.
And that just about sums up my month. I hope you had a good one too
Until next week
